A summary of Ama's condition

Ama has an extremely advanced, aggressive, and pervasive cancer in her lungs that covers just about all areas of her lungs and is the reason she is experiencing extreme difficulty breathing. This type of advanced cancer cannot be cured. There are no options for any drugs, radiation, or surgery given the advanced stage and severity of the cancer in her lungs. With chemotherapy, her life could be prolonged for some months, meaning it could slow the growth of the cancer some, but there is no option to cure the cancer that has already pervaded the majority of her lungs and lead her to a cancer-free life. Without treatment, Ama has a few weeks, at most a few months, left.

Given the prognosis, Ama wishes to carry out her remaining time with her husband, friends, and family rather than spend that time in the hospital receiving treatment. She has expressed a desire to exercise California's right to die act, which would allow her to take a prescribed concoction that would end her life.

Ama's condition is extremely rare and her oncologist remarked that he has never seen a case like hers before. Ama was first diagnosed with endometrial cancer (cancer occurring in the lining of her uterus). A CT scan showed that she also had cancer in her lungs, but cancer was not found anywhere else in her body, including her bones and lymph nodes. Both the endometrial and lung cancer biopsies indicate that these are very ugly, aggressive cancers. It is unclear whether the cancer in her lungs spread from her uterus, or vice versa, although either scenario seems very unlikely given that she does not have cancer in her bones or lymph nodes, where the cancer would occur if it had spread throughout the body. This might suggest that the cancer in the lung and uterus are unrelated, that they are two different types of cancer, which would also be rare and very unusual. There is a third possibility that the origin of the cancer is elsewhere, but no other tumors have been found that would indicate a third origin. Regardless, because the cancer in Ama's lungs is so pervasive, unraveling the origin or relatedness of the cancers in her lungs and uterus is overshadowed by the severity of her lung cancer.

Ama is also experiencing a great deal of pain, the reasons for which are also unknown, but she is receiving pain medication and that is helping her cope with the pain. She is being well taken care of by her husband, Ignacio (Nacho) and her roommate/friend, Kat.

Thank you all for your love, care, and support for Ama <3
